FIRST FRIGATE background information

book cover Return to Books by Bareiss

Presumptuous or not, the inspiration for First Frigate was the
book entitled, The Hunt for Red October. It fits in the same
venue - quiet, unassuming, good guy wins, bad guys lose.

Click on First Frigate Cover for an explanation of how
the cover for First Frigate, shown to the left was put together.

While First Frigate is, of course, a fictional adventure, many
of the restaurants, businesses and other named locations are
real and may be visited using Google Earth or dedicated web
sites. Some of these links are listed below with the related
page number on which the mention occurs.

Rolland Vellieux's Bed and Breakfast on page 71 is facticious
but, it could have been located in the 1400, 1500 or 1600
block of E Street SE in Washington DC. Plug that address into
Google Earth or if you don't have that software, try this
link to Google Maps: E Street SE

The Navy Yard Bistro near the USS Constitution
appears on page 110.

Gunthar Tooties on page 114 is a real restaurant in Quincy.

The house on Blacks Creek that first appears on page 116
could have been any home on Shore Avenue in Quincy,
Massachusetts. If you enter "Shore Ave, Quincy MA" in your
Google Earth application, you can enter the street view and
pick which house you think Barbara Fenton eventually sold to
Mike Herringer.

Thus Spake Zarathustra is the piece played on the cell phones when the satellite communication session was launched on page 213. Turn up your volume first.
